16 Nov SELKIE Webinar – Foundations & Mooring Systems for Marine Energy
The third webinar in the Selkie supply chain series will focus on Foundations and Mooring Systems for the tidal stream and wave energy sectors.
Thursday 26th November – 2pm to 3.30pm. Register here
This webinar aims to:
– Engage with companies who use foundation and mooring design tools for wave and tidal energy devices which help to produce a safe design at the lowest cost.
– Promote the Selkie tools which we are developing to improve foundation and mooring designs.
– Receive industry input to the design and hear what results companies would find most useful.
– Listen to developers who have successfully installed marine renewable energy devices and how they chose the optimum design.
Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions (GDG), Dublin, are leading this workpackage along with University College Cork ( UCC ) and DP Energy Ireland.
Speakers:
Chair: Jay Sheppard, Marine Energy Wales
2:00: TJ Horgan, Selkie Project
Title: Introduction to the Selkie Project
2:05: Dr Paul Bonar, Offshore Research Engineer, Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions Ltd
Title: Foundation and mooring system design in the marine energy sector
Bio: Paul holds a BE with first class honours in Civil Engineering from the National University of Ireland Galway, an MSc with distinction in Sustainable Energy Systems from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD in Marine Renewable Energy also from the University of Edinburgh. He completed postdoctoral research projects on tidal stream power and extreme wave statistics at the Universities of Oxford and Edinburgh, respectively, before joining specialist geotechnical engineering consultancy Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions Ltd (GDG) as an Offshore Research Engineer. Paul is now coordinating GDG’s efforts on the Interreg-funded Selkie project to develop a new open source tool for marine energy foundation and mooring system design.
